Based on the notion of sustainable development, this urban design project defines a new configuration for this district through the redevelopment of the airport zone. The project develops and completes the existing ‘L’-shaped urban structure and proposes a form of circle which is both stronger and more logical. A new tramway line also seeks to reinforce this structure.
In order to re-establish its urban functionality, a new green sense of centrality is created at the heart of the old airport. This combines with Tangshan’s existing green corridors into a project for the construction of a new “green city” with a mix of housing, commercial activities, industry and services.
